My name is Arabella Forge and I am a passionate frugavore. I started writing this book when I was living in a busy household, cooking and preparing nutrient-dense food in my home kitchen, but also watching my dollars every time I went to the supermarket.
I teach a lot of different cooking classes around Melbourne. I’m interested in traditional food preparation methods such as sourdough bread making, wild fermentation, and peasant-style frugal cooking. This book was inspired by a cooking series that I taught at a temporary housing estate in West Sunshine two years ago. Teaching kids to cook foods on a low budget challenged me to source the best quality foods, on the lowest budget, and waste absolutely nothing along the way. This was how Frugavore was born. I’d like to see more people cooking well on a low budget, but at the same time still enjoying nutrient-dense foods, and wasting nothing in their home kitchens.
My background is in health sciences – I am a qualified Nutritionist and have a Masters Degree in Dietetics. I am also the Melbourne Chapter Leader for the Weston A. Price Foundation www.westonaprice.org and I have two hens – Monsanto and Smithfield – and you are welcome to read about them on my frugavore blog
I hope that you enjoy this site.
